~What is New Thought?~
New Thought is a spiritual movement infused with Christian mysticism (as opposed to literalism or fundamentalism) focused primarily in the United States in the early 20th century.
New Thought maintains that God (Infinite Intelligence) is the supreme force which exists everywhere, and everything is an emanation of God and composed of Divine Substance. Humanity, therefore, is also of divine origin. An individual's mental state manifests in the material world as situations and events. |
According to New Thought authors, sickness, distress, poverty, and lack of well being arise primarily out of the false belief in separation from God. Therefore, an individual has the ability to create a life of health, well being, financial stability and loving kindness by acknowledging the divine in all and aligning her thoughts and will with the all-pervading power of the Divine Presence.
The New Thought movement is the basis for most of our current thinking on manifestation, metaphysics, and the use of affirmations. It is the foundation out of which sprang the popular Law of Attraction literature, and the use of affirmations and visualization, and is the origins of the New Age movement.

~ why Women's New Thought Library? ~
As a woman, I have often felt unintentionally excluded from the classic New Thought books written by men. I believe these authors also had women in mind when they wrote these fine texts, but, as was the style and mindset of the time, they used mostly masculine pronouns, referred to God as male and to humankind as “Man”. Because of that, these works lost a lot of their power for me.
Instead of continuing to “translate” as I read, I decided to completely transcribe my favorites, not changing the original content or spirit, but updating masculine language into feminine terms. Suddenly, what had felt exclusive to the male mindset was now speaking to me personally as a woman. The texts became exciting, empowering, and full of astonishing potential.
I feel confident that, were these authors penning these works today, they would be using more inclusive language. I like to imagine that, in Spirit, they are happy to have these updated versions provided for you. It is my hope that you find Women’s New Thought Library texts as useful and inspiring as I do.
